The central theme of my practice is identity with supporting themes of politics and society, nostalgia, and cartoons. Alongside my themes, I am currently enquiring into the upbringing of individuals, specifically of those from working class immigrant families of the UK.
I was born in the UK to Cypriot refugee parents from the Turkish Invasion. I constantly questioned my identity, trying to figure out if I should categorise myself as foreign in England or Cyprus; this main question remains the backbone of my enquiry. Throughout my practice, I explore how my upbringing in a fish and chip shop influenced my research into what it means to grow up in a minority of a country, to be British and be categorised.
